Prosecutors in Berlin are investigating Academy Award-winning actor Christoph Waltz for alleged tax fraud involving transfers of money to an undisclosed foreign account, according to media reports.
The authorities discovered Waltz's name on a CD containing tax information that was purchased by the Finance Ministry of the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The investigation apparently has been going on for some time, though it is unclear exactly how long. It is also unclear how much money Waltz allegedly transferred to the foreign account.
Neither Waltz nor prosecutors responded to inquiries from Tax Analysts by press time.
Waltz is on a worldwide promotional tour for the film Legend of Tarzan. He has also starred in films such as Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained, and the most recent James Bond film, Spectre.
